Dear HD-59 Voter,
When our Founders began this Nation it was a loose knit confederation of states governed by the Articles of Confederation. There were so many problems that needed repaired, that when they met in 1787 to fix the problems they decided to scrap the whole federal organization and start over using the Constitution that Madison had started writing in Virginia.
The founding fathers designated 18 problem areas that needed addressed at the National level, these areas were called spheres of power. When the Constitution was ratified it was done so knowing that the states did not give over any other powers. In fact, it was setup so the Federal Government limited the state governments and the state governments limited the Federal. By off setting this power, known as checks and balances it insures our liberties as long as the Constitution is followed. When we look at the spheres of power placed with the Federal Government, we must remember these spheres are the maximum and minimum limits of power. Is the Federal Government still within these limits? What organization was placed as the barrier against an overbearing federal government? The States were. Remember the Bill of Rights? Men have governments to secure these rights is how the preamble to the Constitution states it. The listed rights are not all the ones we have. The 10th Amendment was put in place, basically saying to the Federal Government and if we forgot to list anything you can’t do that either. All we need to do is limit the Federal Government by upholding the Tenth Amendment. It’s that simple, right? Yes, though doing so will not be easy and this is why. When our Federal Government started overstepping the limitations placed upon them they were not stopped and attempting to re-establish limits, which our founders called chains, will not happen easily. History shows us that the Federal Government will not submit to being limited on its own. Since when has the Federal Government ever limited themselves in anyway on the matters of their jurisdiction in the House or Senate in DC?
In order to save our Liberties and Freedoms we must place the federal government back into its limited role and to do so we need elected officials in our state and local levels that will not give an inch. Our elected officials need to erect barriers to stop the Federal Government from further encroaching on the States’ Jurisdictions, while diligently working to place the Federal Government back into its prescribed role.
When I announced I was running for HD-59 at the Carbon County Republican Committee Meeting back in July of 2009, I did this as a courtesy only. By doing so, I informed the Republican party that when I file on January 14th 2010, I do so as a conservative candidate on the Constitution Party platform. In so doing, I have made them fully aware of my intentions well in advance of filing. Since I have announced my run I have been asked numerous times to please run as a Republican Candidate. I cannot and this is why. Most Republican Legislators have a history of not upholding their oath of office, or their obligations to their constituents. For the most part, when the political whip is cracked they follow what is demanded by the party line, the end result is usually a bigger or more intrusive government.
I left the Republican Party in 1988 when I saw that the Republican candidates and legislators were not following their platform or their Principles. I wish to differentiate myself from the Republican Party line since it has helped to allow the Federal Government to greatly over step its constitutional limitations. Because this has been allowed to continue for so long America and our freedom are now at a critical stage. We can no longer continue on, as we have in the past. This is not just a Republican problem alone, as the Democrats would have us believe. Since in the past most Montana Legislators have negotiated and sold out for federal money, most of which comes from the state in the first place. As Ronald Reagan said, ”Big government is not the answer, it is the problem.” Unfortunately the Federal Government was not reduced to its Constitutional jurisdictions while he was in office, and has continued growing exponentially, both before and since his presidency. I hear the rhetoric from the Republicans that we need real conservatives in office. Yes, I agree, we do. Given that not all Republican candidates are conservatives, I personally feel I cannot run under the Republican ticket because I would be violating both my morals and my principles.
All Constitution Party members are conservatives as you can see by our platform. Not only are we conservatives, but we are strong Conservatives that will not give on our Principles and we fully support our platform. As evidenced by Rick Jore when he was a member of the Montana House representing HD-12, Lake County. With a Constitution Party Legislator any bill that steps on our personal freedoms will not be receiving a Yes vote, and each bill will be looked at in a Constitutional context. I will be running as a Constitution Party candidate and if the Republican Party really wants true conservatives in office, as they say, then they won’t attempt to split the conservative arm of the voters by running the party version of conservatives where the constitutional conservatives are running. Now is the time we need true statesmen who adhere to the ideals of truly limited and smaller government. Though a number of statesmen are in the Republican Party; sadly they are few and far between. Montana voters regardless of the candidate’s party affiliations should support all conservative statesmen who uphold their oath of office, strive for limited Constitutional Government and adhere to a true conservative platform.
Sincerely Yours,
David D. Anderson
Candidate HD-59
